On Wednesday 16th October, all pupils will finish at 1:40pm due to Staff Meeting.
On Tuesday 15th October, we will be taking part in a Goal Jersey Day fundraising campaign. Students and Staff can wear their favourite team’s colours in an effort to raise funds for GOAL. The recommended donation is €2.00.
On Intercultural Day, there were projects on different countries displayed in the hall and loads of flags hanging from the ceiling. The hall was filled with colour. Different nationalities and countries were represented. Lots food was prepared and everyone had a huge feast. Raseem Osmani (6th Class).
At Intercultural Day, the hall was buzzing and tables were scattered with delicious foods from different countries all over the world. We had an amazing time sampling new foods and learning about different cultures and countries. Oisín Derwin (6th Class).
On Tuesday 6th February all pupils from Second Class went to Ballinteer Community School for Science Exhibition. They did lots of science experiments with Potassium, Lithium and Magnesium. The classes also did an experiment on the digestive system. It was a great day and all the pupils had a really fun time.
Staff Meeting will be taking place on Wednesday 17th January at 1:40pm. All children will go home at 1:40pm on this day.
Junior & Senior Infants: New Term of Stretch-n-Grow starts on Tuesday 9th January. Term Duration:10 Weeks. Cost:€50.00. Can be paid in full or 2 x €25.00. To enrol your child in the class, please text Jane (087) 2203522. Payment can be made when collecting your child after the 1st Class.
Wednesday 20th December is the Christmas Variety Concert in the school. All the children from Junior Infants, Senior Infants and First Class will have their performance at 12:00pm that day. All other pupils from Second to Sixth Class inclusive will perform at 7:00pm that evning.
Thursday 21st December is “Wear Your Pyjamas To School Day” for all pupils. We are asking all children to dress in their pyjamas and bring €1 donation for charity chosen by the school. This year we will be donating all proceeds to the Peter McVerry Trust.

This year the Knitting Exhibition will take place on Tuesday 9th May for those from 2nd – 6th Class in the SchoolKitchen. The display times are as follows: Ms Regan’s Class will be viewing at 11:00am, Ms Friel’s 1st and 2nd Class at 11:10am, Junior Infant Classes at 11:20am, Ms O’Loughlins Class at 11:30am, Senior Infant Classes at 11:40am, Ms O’Neills Class at 11:50am, Ms Leacy’s Class at 12:00am and Mr Heneghan’s Class at 12:10. These are the times that the individual classes will be viewing with their teachers all the beautiful creations that the pupils from 2nd – 6th Class have knitted this year. Parents are welcome at anytime during the times above (11:00 -12:10).

We are starting swimming lessons for Ms Friel’s First & Second Class from Friday 5th May.
They will take place in Energia, Nutgrove every Friday from 1 –2pm. The group will attend lessons for 4 weeks.
The cost of the lessons is €30.00 per child. Most of the cost of the bus will be subsidised by the school. The swimming lessons will cover P.E. for these four weeks; therefore the children should wear their tracksuits on
The children will be divided into graded groups – beginners and intermediate / advanced. Each group will have a qualified instructor.
Each child must have swimming costume (one piece girls), goggles, swimming hat and towel.
We are very pleased to be able to offer swimming lessons to our pupils. We hope it will be an enjoyable and beneficial activity.
First – Sixth Class. Due to a high level of interest expressed Yveline Fedal will now be teaching two french classes for 1st -6th Class per week. The classes will be taking place on Thursday and Friday from 2:40pm – 3:40pm. The classes are now full. A text will be sent to all parents who returned forms before Easter holidays to confirm day of lessons. The cost of the term is €65.00 and can be paid to Yveline after class. If you are collecting your child, please collect at main door entrance.
After School Music Lessons (Monday): This term Tin Whistle lessons will be from 8th May to 29th May. Cost is €8.00 for the full term.
Fiddle and Banjo After School Music. This term Fiddle and Banjo lessons will be from 3rd May – 30th May. Cost is €15.00 including rental.
Reminder: Sports Day this Friday 28th April in Mulvey Park starting at 10:00am – 1pm approx.
If you are attending the Sports Day, your child can go directly home with you if you so wish once all the activities are over. Otherwise the children will be brought back to the school until normal home time.
There will be no Infant Club or after school French lessons on 28th April.
Active school week will be taking place from 24th – 28th April.
Pls ensure your child wears school tracksuit and runners all this week as they will be participating in sporting events.
Clan Cluana, a Theatre Company from Tipperary have visited the school several times in the recent past. They are with us once again tomorrow (Tuesday 25th April) to present “Diarmuid and Gráinne. This particular company specialises in presenting Irish Sagas & Folktales and we are delighted to welcome them back again this year. We’re sure the children will enjoy the show.
As the play is due to start at 12:30 the Infant Classes might be slightly later leaving school tomorrow. Please note Infant Club will follow immediately after the Play.
The Parents Association are running a healthy tuck shop and a raffle for Sports Day on Friday the 28th of April. We are looking for donations for the raffle. If you have any unwanted but new toys or books that you would like to donate to the raffle please drop them into Deirdre the school secretary before Friday the 28th of April. We will also need help on the day, running the tuck shop, raffle, tidying up and helping the teachers run the races etc. If you can help in anyway please contact Mairead Gabbett by phone or leave a message on our face book page. We are also looking for parents to run/jog/walk the VHI women’s mini marathon and gather sponsorship for the school. The mini marathon is the 5th of June but entry forms must be submitted by the 28th of April. The entry is online at www.vhiwomensminimarathon.ie. Sponsorship forms are available from the PA. Mr Heneghan’s Third Class will be visiting Irish Film Institute tomorrow 6th April to see a viewing of Swallows and Amazons. The class will be travelling by Luas and leaving at 9:00am.
Yveline Feval is thinking of introducing French classes for children from 1st – 6th Class here at Our Lady’s N.S as an after school activity from 2:40pm – 3:40pm. The classes will take place every Thursday.
She is hoping to start these French lessons on Thursday 27th April until Thursday 15th June. Fees: €5 x 8 weeks = €40.00 per term Book/CD Cost = €25.00
Please be aware that the level of intent will determine how many pupils can be accommodated. Yveline Feval. Please let us know if you are interested in French Lessons for your child by filling in the form that has been sent home this week and returning it to the Secretary by Thursday 6th April.
As I’m sure you’re all aware our Artist-In-Residence, Mr Brendan White has been conducting a series of Art Workshops for interested parents for the past while. Another display of their wonderful work will culminate with an Exhibition in the School Hall on Thursday next, 6th April at 7pm. We hope you can come in and view the work of these talented artists.

In conjunction with ‘Seachtain na Gaeilge’ we will have a ‘Lá Glas’ in the school on Thursday next 16th. All the pupils are encouraged to be dressed up in Green when they come to school on the day.
During the day they will have an opportunity to participate in some Irish damhsa (dancing), ceol (music), amhránaíocht (singing) agus filíocht (poetry).
And of course the children are always encouraged to speak as much Irish as they can both in the school and in the home environment.

P.S. A reminder from the Parents Association that their current fundraising initiative for a signed Irish Rugby Jersey continues during Seachtain na Gaeilge and the raffle tickets will be available from Parents Association volunteers in the school yard before school starts and at pick up times.
Ms O’Neill’s Christmas Play “Jack and the Beanstalk” has been chosen to enter the drama competition in Terenure College on Wednesday 15th March. All pupils must attend on the night. A bus has been organised to take the class there. All pupils must meet at the school next Wednesday at 6.45pm wearing their costume.
For any parents who wish to attend, the performance will start at 8:00pm. Other schools will also perform on the night so we will return to the school after all of the performances when the winners are announced. We hope to be back at the school at approximately 9:45pm for you to collect your child

You are cordially invited to our Grandparents Day in the school on 15th March between 10:30 and 12:30pm. Refreshments will be provided on arrival, followed by a prayer service and assembly.
All Grandparents will then have an opportunity to visit their grandchilds’/grandchildrens’ class.

Ms Kilbane Music Classes: We regret Music classes on Mon 6th and Tues 7th March are cancelled. Extra Classes will be scheduled after Easter holidays.
As part of Active Schools, we are holding a Santa Fun run in the school next Wednesday. We are trying to keep active in this cold weather so we are going to do a Santa Fun run around the school yard for a bit of fun.
Infant classes will go out at 11.10 and Senior classes will run at 11.40. If the children could bring a Santa hat and wear a Christmas jumper with their tracksuit bottoms that would be great .
