Soccer Success!!!!

We are delighted to say that our school soccer team experienced huge success in the league that they took part in. The school team played Delgany Football team in the final and what a final it was! The game was 0-0 for most of the game and then Delgany got a goal. Our Lady’s team showed immense resilience and strength as they battled on trying to create chances where they could. And that they did!! Fionn McGovern was the first to find the back of the net! The pressure was then on as there were only minutes left and we needed another goal to clinch the title. In dramatic style, Charlie Leech Murphy found the back of the net once again and Our Lady’s got that all important last goal!!! There was jubilation on the side lines and on the pitch! The final whistle was blown seconds later and the game was over. Our Lady’s were crowned the winners!

We are all very proud of each member of the school team. Each player had a huge part to play and together as a team, they pulled through and clinched the title! A huge thank you to Mr Heneghan too who has given so much of his own time to this team and through all the trainings and team talks inspired them to keep going and to believe in themselves. Thank you also to Ms Carberry (SNA) who provided some refreshing oranges during the match. Well done to all the team once again. We look forward to the medal ceremony in assembly very soon!

Girls Soccer team

Soccer

Our Lady’s Girls Soccer team qualified for the Spar Dublin Finals which took place in Irishtown on Wednesday 25th April. Having played very few games together the girls put up a fantastic performance on the day. Our first game was against Good Shepherd N.S. A last minute goal by Demi-Leigh Curtis secured us a 1-1 draw. Good Shepherd went on to win. Our Lady’s defeated Hedgestown National School with goals from Demi-Leigh Curtis and Emma Dunne. In our last game we were defeated 5-3 by Ballybrack . Fantastic goals however by Demi – Leigh and Eunsae! Unfortunately, we just missed out on silver medals as Ballybrack beat us on goal difference.

Well done to all the girls involved and a special thanks to Ms Leacy for accompanying the girls to the matches and preparing them in advance of their games.

On a separate note, our school soccer team top the Dublin league table with one game to go. They continued their unbeaten run with a recent hard fought draw with Sandford. Jack Weadick scored his first goal for the school!! Well done Jack! The team are also involved in the Plate Competition and hope to keep the fantastic form going into the summer!

Once again, a huge thank you to Mr Heneghan for his dedication in supporting and preparing the school soccer team.
